| Dear all,
Finally organized pix from my Shanghai trip. You can see them at http://www.huntergeek.com/shanghai. :)
Word of warning: This page is approx 5MB to load.
| Message to say, back from Shanghai ;) Still organizing pix at the moment, they will be up soon. Have to censor out the incriminating bits don't I? Now how does that blur filter work in Photoshop? :P
Actually I had a really really good time. Apart from missing Sebastian terribly, it was a great experience. I visited Shanghai city, which is kind of like New York on steriods, very loud, very busy, so many people. There is a very whacked traffic system there, which makes you afraid to cross the road.. you just kind of have to watch when everyone else crosses, run across with them and hope for the best :P We went on a side trip out of the city to Wuzhen and Suzchou, known as the Venice of the Orient because of their beautiful villages with the canals running through. Some of these villages have been living the same way for centuries, and being Chinese, in a way it was like coming home and face to face with my own culture all over again. China is a place of unbelievable beauty and ugliness.
The food was amazing also, everything from the little dumplings and crispy shallot pancakes you could buy in the street for 20 cents to dinner every night. We never had less than 9 courses. In fact on the last night we all had dinner totally we sat down to 25 courses! Food is such an art form to the Chinese, and in Shanghai me being the food critic I am, I was in 7th heaven. Actually within a week of coming home I had to drag Sebastian out to Shanghainese.. and now sitting here writing and remembering I am getting cravings all over again!
Yet I still lost weight. Woohoo! I think all the walking helped. No amount of money could induce me to drive in Shanghai, luckily the taxis and subway is dirt cheap, and I had good walking boots :) Shopping was amazing. You learn to haggle everywhere, everything is marked up 10 times over which I didn't like at first, but afterwards learned how fun bargaining can be ;) I brought some incredible antiques like some pieces of jade and ornaments, as well as the usual souveiners. With the current exchange rate, and just how cheap everything is there, I lived like a king on just 100$AUD for the week. I didn't have to exchange anything else. You can eat quite happily for about 6$ a meal (a proper meal, not just Maccers) and everything is just so damn cheap.. Shopping is a national sport over there, and made me wish I flew over with a bigger suitcase! But so glad to be home as well and seeing my boy ;)
Anyhow, will stop babbling on, will get the photos up tonight hopefully, and start posting some links. Til then, take care ;)
